Super Lap Battle at Circuit of The Americas welcomed a new, never-before seen race format to the schedule this year.
In collaboration with Autism Speaks, COTA and the Super Lap Battle team staged the Great Inflatable Race during Sunday’s lunch hour. Autism Speaks coordinated outreach to the greater Central Texas area to invite families and motorsports fans with connections to the Autism Spectrum to participate. Children were invited onto COTA’s world-famous track to compete in a friendly foot race down the front straight with Super Lap Battle drivers in inflatable costumes – bringing smiles and laughs to the whole grid.
“Seeing the kids’ faces light up as they got to walk onto the F1 track was beautiful. Also, having a space where the families could walk into the car garages and talk to drivers while the cars are off, so it was sensory sensitive, is life changing. A lot of kids love racing, but would never normally get to see them up close! Having the opportunity to offer that to our families was priceless” said Brittany Durand, Autism Speaks Central Texas Representative.
