STORYBOOK ENDINGS FOR TEXAS TEAMS AT INAUGURAL GRAND-AM OF THE AMERICAS

For the winning Texas teams and drivers, as well as a certain BMW racing team, taking part in the inaugural GRAND-AM of The Americas at Circuit of The Americas provided a storybook ending to a perfectly scripted week of competition. Three teams with Lone Star State connections earned three pole positions and won three of the day’s four races.

In the day’s featured race, the GRAND-AM’s Rolex Sports Car Series, the Dallas-based GAINSCO/Bob Stallings No. 99 Daytona Prototype (DP) with lead driver Jon Fogarty, started from the pole for a record 24th time and took the race lead with co-competitor Alex Gurney at the wheel on lap 63 of the 70-lap race when Brendan Hartley’s No. 8 Starworks Motorsports car was bumped and spun out into the gravel.

Gurney held of a hard-charging Scott Pruett in his No. 1 Chip Ganassi Racing BMW Riley for the last few laps to take the checkered flag, the first win for the two-time GRAND-AM championship veteran racing team in nearly two years.
